Chris' "Freedom Ship"

This TerraTrike Tour II received a laundry list of modifications to fit its rider, who has Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS).
In addition to the headrest, heel-support pedals, and one-handed braking, we replaced the rear wheel with a hub-driven motorized wheel from Electric Bike Technologies. The motor is controlled by a twist-grip throttle that offers variable assistance.
As the rider is left-handed, we mounted the brake lever and rear shifter on the left side, and we made an extension for the rear shift lever.
To help the rider's pedal-stroke, we fit shorter, 150mm Odyssey Black Widow cranks with double chainrings, and we preserved the gear range by replacing the rear cluster with a Shimano MegaRange freewheel.
To smooth out the ride, we replaced the stock sneakers with wide Primo V-Monster BMX tires.
This is, by far, our favorite custom TerraTrike! Thanks for the great insights, Chris!

"Want you to know how much I love the trike and your adaptations.
It's my freedom ship, that I ironically use to cruise over land to arrive at the ocean.
It`s my way to sail free - on bike paths through pine forests and up, down and around sand dune trails."
